A holistic dental approach examines the relationship between your oral health and the rest of your body leading towards overall harmony and well-being. Our philosophy is patient centered caring for the needs of the whole person as well as their teeth.
Preventive care and good dental hygiene are major components in holistic dentistry. These fields of dental treatment are concerned with the maintenance of your natural teeth for life with limited dental restorations. We seek to inform our patients in preventive and nutritional dental care. We utilize the most non-invasive dental techniques and aspire to combine advanced technology with caring and skilled hands to ensure quality patient orientated treatment.
A MERCURY SAFE PRACTICE
We are a mercury-safe practice as we don’t place silver fillings. However, many people still have silver/mercury fillings in their mouths from years past. Other options are available include: Porcelain inlays/onlays/crowns and Tooth Colored Restorations / fillings that are not only beautiful but may be unnoticeable. These restorations are esthetically pleasing and very strong thanks to new bonding technologies.
VOCO RESTORATIVE MATERIALS
Any dental material made with BisGMA may contain trace amounts of Bisphenol A. Some companies strive to produce significantly less toxic materials. VOCO (www.voco.com) brand restorative materials contain 30-50% less resin than many other composite brands, proportionately reducing potential presence of trace amounts of bisphenols. Furthermore, VOCO does not add Bisphenol A or B to its composites. Because less resin is present in its products, VOCO tests high for biocompatibility (Clifford Labs: http://www.ccrlab.com), and Scientific Health Solutions classifies VOCO products in the Least Reactive Components category for dental restorative materials.
Dentistry is changing as we are now using modern science to practice dentistry. Ozone therapy has been more beneficial than present conventional therapeutic modalities when applied to dentistry. This state of the art technology allows us to take a minimally invasive and conservative approach to dental treatment. Treating patients with ozone therapy reduces the treatment time with a great deal of difference and it eliminates the bacterial count more precisely. The treatment is completely painless and increases the patients’ acceptability and compliance with minimal adverse effects.
Ozone treatment is excellent as a preventative measure against future decay and dental work needed to correct the damage caused by bacteria. Benefits also include:
Eliminates the use of drills and fillings.
Eliminates the use of anaesthetics.
Kills 99% of bacteria in cavities.
Can whiten discoloured cavities.
Excellent for nervous or anxious patients.
Reduces inflammation and pain sensation.
The use of ozone in dentistry is gaining its place in every day’s dental practice and is used in almost all dental applications. The undisputed disinfection power of ozone over other antiseptics makes the use of ozone in dentistry a very good alternative and/or an additional disinfectant to standard antiseptics
SAFE AMALGAM REMOVAL
During the amalgam removal process we take extra precautionary measures to reduce the amount of mercury vapor generated and utilize an efficient evacuation system to safely remove toxic particles and vapor from the working area to protect the patient, doctor and assistant. We take great care to minimize your exposure to this toxic metal and the possible harmful side-effects that may from follow from careless removal of old amalgam fillings.
We also take great care in the replacement of these fillings preserving tooth structure and choosing materials which are strong, biocompatible, aesthetic and long lasting. Following filling removal patients are recommended to receive IV vitamin C, to support the body’s ability to detoxify heavy metals.
For patient safety during amalgam removal:
Vitamin C and activated charcoal slurry for rinse and swallow prior to amalgam removal.
Mercury Vapor Ionizer: Removes mercury vapors by releasing over 2 billions negative ions which capture free mercury vapor
Rubber dam or disposable isodry mouthpiece: to create a barrier
Dent Air Vac (clean up suction) for trapping mercury debris
